IAM RoadSmart St Helens Group - terms and conditions

This section provides all relevant terms and conditions for any IAM RoadSmart retail products and services that you may purchase through the IAM website.

Important: Before any purchase is completed you will be asked to tick a box during the purchase process to indicate that you have read and accepted these terms and conditions.

IAM RoadSmart will process your personal data because it is necessary for the performance of a contract, acceptance of the terms and conditions is your agreement to the terms of the contract with IAM RoadSmart

1. Advanced Driver and Rider Courses

Requirements and terms and conditions for our advanced courses


Applicants must hold a valid and current full Driving Licence which allows the applicant to drive and/or ride in the UK and EU. Holders of a provisional licence are not eligible.


When attending the first Observed Run with a Group, and the Test with an Examiner, please double check that all of your documents are in order and valid as you will be asked to sign a declaration confirming that you have all the correct documents necessary to drive or ride legally on the roads:


1. Current valid full driving licence 
2. A fully licensed and roadworthy vehicle. 
3. The vehicle has a Certificate of Insurance 
4. An MOT Certificate (where applicable). 


I declare that my eyesight meets the minimum legal requirements. I will be deemed to be in control of the vehicle at all times.


Payment

Your first year's IAM and group Associate fees are included within the advanced course cost and further subscriptions will be payable annually. If the IAM RoadSmart  test has not been passed within one year, additional IAM and IAM Group Associate fees will be payable. You will not be able to take the advanced test unless your subscriptions are up to date.


Refund policy

IAM membership and driving and riding products are non refundable once purchased, except in very exceptional circumstances where IAM RoadSmart has been unable to deliver the course or event promised. IAM RoadSmart may in exceptional circumstances refund the test fee paid as part of the advanced course. An application for a refund should be made via email to [email protected] or in writing to Customer Care, IAM RoadSmart 1 Albany Place, Hyde Way, Welwyn Garden City AL7 3BT.


Transfer of courses

IAM RoadSmart will be happy to transfer a purchased product or course to another person at no additional cost if the original purchaser is unable to commence the course or programme. This enables us to continue to deliver our charitable objective of improving the road skills of as many people as possible.

Specific Motorcycle Application Conditions

1. A legal helmet with suitable eye protection and motorcycle clothing, gloves and footwear that offer impact protection must be worn when riding. 
2. Observers are unpaid volunteers and so some Groups may request a contribution to the running costs of your Observers motorcycle. 
3. Motorcycles must be capable of sustaining the national speed limit when it is safe and legal to do so. 

2. IAM RoadSmart driving and riding products terms and conditions

 
These terms and conditions apply to all IAM driving and riding products except for the advanced courses.

Requirements

Please ensure that you meet the following criteria before attending your drive or ride as you will be asked to sign a declaration confirming this.

• You have a full current valid driving licence
• Your vehicle is roadworthy and has a valid MOT if required 
• You can provide proof of insurance cover 
• Your eyesight meets the minimum legal requirement 

IAM RoadSmart may decline to proceed with your session if any of these conditions are not met.

Refund policy

Declaration (to be signed at your first session)

I declare to the best of my knowledge and belief the answers given in my application or purchase are true. I agree that the IAM and Group and its officers and employees shall not be under any liability for any injury, damage or loss whatever and however caused.

3. The IAM RoadSmart advanced test terms and conditions

 
These terms and conditions apply to any advanced test provided by IAM RoadSmart regardless of whether it was purchased independently or as part of a package.
The test is approximately 90 minutes duration at a mutually convenient time and location. In addition to the Examiner, there may be a third person who will not take part in the test, but is present for quality control purposes.
The vehicle used for the test must enable the applicant to demonstrate sufficiently an advanced level of driving/riding skill.

Insurance

If the vehicle is not insured by you personally, but for instance by the organisation by whom you are employed, please indicate this is the case, give particulars of insurers and of the company name and person from whom further details may be obtained.

Convictions

If you have a court case for a driving offence pending you will have to wait until the legal process is finalised before taking the test (this includes Fixed Penalty Notices).

Refunds

In the event that an applicant is unable to take the IAM RoadSmart test, we may at its absolute discretion consider a refund of the test fee after deduction of a charge for administration. A refund will only be considered following receipt by us of a request in writing explaining why the applicant is unable to take the test. If no such request is received within 3 years of the original purchase and/or the applicant does not maintain their Associate membership of the IAM, the relevant test fee will be retained by and become the property of the IAM, to be used by it as it shall determine in furtherance of its charitable objects.

IAM ROADSMART RESERVES THE RIGHT TO DECLINE TO CONDUCT A TEST IF ANY OF THESE CONDITIONS IS NOT COMPLIED WITH.

 
4. IAM RoadSmart merchandise terms and conditions

Order Processing

Orders are normally processed within 48 hours and goods despatched within 7 days of receipt of order. Your details are passed to an external company who use your name and address data to despatch the merchandise items on our behalf. Your data is retained solely for record keeping and confirmation of despatch and orders placed.

Delivery

Please allow 7 - 14 days for delivery with the exception of engraved items which may take longer.

Postal Charges

P&P quoted is for UK Mainland despatch via Royal Mail. If you are ordering goods for delivery outside the UK, additional postage costs will be incurred.

Cancellation, Refunds and Returns

You may cancel your order within 7 days of placing it, and upon receipt of your returned goods, IAM RoadSmart will make a full refund. The address for returns is
