About us
The Mid Yorkshire Group of Advanced Motorists (MYAM) was formed in 2014 following the merger of the former Dewsbury & Batley, Leeds and Wakefield groups. We were subsequently joined by the Harrogate group and in 2022, the Skipton & Craven group.
These combined Groups had been in existence for well in excess of 75 years so, collectively, there is a huge amount of expertise available.
MYAM covers most of West Yorkshire and large parts of North Yorkshire. MYAM is one of around 200 simialr Groups across the country but is run as an independent charity affiliated to IAM RoadSmart (formerly the Institute of Advanced Motorists). MYAM is a car Group but there are thriving local Groups catering for motorcyclists too.
Our aim is to reduce the number and seriousness of road accidents on our roads by promoting a higher standard of driving through the Advanced Driving Test and through education. IAM RoadSmart is a leading road safety charity in the UK and is a leading light in promoting road safety research. Road safety is the key.
As a local Group we are the focal point for members to join together for Test preparation and also social and motoring events covering an area from Eggborough in the east, Bradford in the west, Harrogate, Skipton and beyond in the north and Wakefield in the south. We want to encourage all sectors of the community to become better drivers and try very hard to focus on the younger motorists who are the most vulnerable on our very busy roads. There is no age limit on drivers joining the Group, all ages are welcome and can benefit from independent observation and coaching.
Whether you are a keen driver or simply regard motoring as a means of getting from A to B let us help you do it with safety and satisfaction. Don’t say “It’s not for me”, there is no need to be nervous; we will help you. We are confident that you will find it an enjoyable exercise. We want you to be a better driver so we prepare you thoroughly for the Test; we want you to pass first time.
