IAM RoadSmart Chair of The Board

IAM RoadSmart is on an exciting journey of transformation that draws on its heritage of educating and upskilling drivers and riders for almost 70 years.

Established as a traditional membership body, the charity is now on a significant journey of change which will help challenge perceptions to bring road safety to the top of everyone’s agenda, and we need a Chair who will support us on this journey.

Please note, this role is an important volunteer role; it will hold responsibility for leading the Board of Trustees and for holding the CEO and senior team to account, ensuring that decisions are made in the best interest of the charity, to help futureproof it and to continue making safer drivers and rider on road.

Head of Customer Experience

This role is responsible for building a high-performing team, leading them to success, with customer experience at the forefront of everything they do. Our three-year plan and beyond focuses on growth, with the Head of Customer Experience being influential in our success and responsible for helping us acquire new customers as well as retain existing ones, working across commercial and charity. This role plays a key part in supporting new initiatives including fundraising and donations, upselling, and cross-promotion.

Responsibilities include:

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the customer care team, to cover commercial and charity
  • Evolve and improve customer communications and touchpoints by working alongside the commercial, membership, and marketing teams.
  • Support charity growth projects ensuring that the team and system requirements are considered when developing new products and processes.
  • Contribute to the quarterly member magazine with case studies and stories from our community for commercial and charity, where possible.
  • Develop a series of KPIs and measure the contact centre performance alongside Team Leaders, ensuring that available resources are used to deliver the best service to customers in line with the business volumes presented daily.
  • Work closely with the IT team to ensure that the CRM functionalities support the customer and business needs, e.g. through process automation.
  • Maintain and improve product/service knowledge across the organisation through stakeholder management and engagement.
  • Drive process and system changes, developing efficiencies that are structured around improving the customer experience.
  • Respond to operations support feedback promptly and on message.

The ideal candidate should have previous experience of operational management within a customer call centre environment, preferably in membership or charity, with at least five years’ experience at a supervisor level and above. They must have demonstrable leadership ability - get others to perform, improve, and manage their performance by providing direction and feedback on team and individual objectives.

Road Safety Manager – Northern Ireland

As the UK’s largest independent road safety charity, formed in 1956, IAM RoadSmart has spent nearly 70 years making UK roads safer by improving driver and rider skills through coaching and education. The charity has over 70,000 members, all of whom have taken and passed an advanced test in a car, commercial vehicle or on a motorcycle.

The Road Safety Manager – Northern Ireland is responsible for IAM RoadSmart's operational service. The role will provide a ‘local voice’ by a post holder in Northern Ireland, managed by IAM RoadSmart to:

  • grow our brand and corporate identity
  • develop and deliver partnership work in collaboration with our volunteer network
  • standardise and diversify our volunteer network
  • increase our presence in the Northern Ireland policy and campaigning space
  • support our volunteer network
  • attend, develop and deliver events specific to the local community
  • increase course sales and retain members
  • ensure continuing ARC/ADC delivery
  • support National Observer Assessments & Masters Tests
  • support with the recruitment and management of Examiners and Masters Mentors

The ideal candidate should possess a Police Class 1 Driving and/or Riding qualification or an equivalent IAM Masters certification, accompanied by IMI National Observer qualification(s) and IMI Examiner qualification(s), where applicable.

You must demonstrate a deep understanding of driving and riding techniques.

You will have great interpersonal skills, experience of delivering strategy and managing change. You will have experience of managing volunteers and groups and will be able to work independently as well as a part of a team.

This is a part-time role for 12 months, with a salary of £21,500 for 21 hours per week (The role may involve evening and weekend work).

Are you an experienced ADI with a passion for road safety? We’re looking for new instructors to join our team, delivering our industry-leading courses for business drivers throughout the UK. You don’t need to be on the DVSA fleet register; we will provide you with the materials and training for delivering our courses to the same high standards as fleet-registered ADIs. Due to local demand, we are especially interested in instructors able to operate in the following areas:

Drink-Drive Rehabilitation Course Trainers (Self-Employed)

We have a team of enthusiastic, self-motivated and professional trainers who deliver our DVSA-Approved courses to convicted drink drivers both online and in-person. We are not currently looking to add to our team, but please do check back in the future.
